Middle School students, grades 6 to 8 (ages 11 to 13)

In classes of 15 to 20, students develop their academic English through the Intensive English (IE) program and/or study a second foreign language (Spanish or other). In addition to the core subjects (language, math, science and social studies) the SIFC middle school program is strong in the arts, athletics and other “specials.” Every year each student studies music, visual arts, physical education and health.

Equally important in our middle school is the Tutor Program. At SIFC all middle school students are in a tutor group of 3-5 students, with one teacher-tutor who meets with the group regularly to focus on the social and emotional growth of students through experiential and discussion based activities along with an opportunity for a daily check-in. The Tutor Program ensures a home base for each child. The Middle School Parents’ Council is an active group that organizes and promotes both social and service events as well as serving as the voice of students in working with teachers and the school management team.
