At SIFC, Mr. Isaac Cohen’s Science class is a very interesting and engaging space where our students prepare themselves for a high standard level of scientific education as well to prepare for taking the SAT exam or the AP test in order to skip over introductory Biology courses in College. Biology is the science of life, the study of living things and the way they work, it is considered one of the most interesting subjects to learn by our students and is growing in popularity among our community due to the amazing activities and practices we are performing on a daily basis in our school.
Integrated Science and AP Biology Teacher
Isaac Cohen
Isaac Cohen is the Master of Hydrobiological Resources and Education Specialist degree in pedagogy, the University of Cauca. Bachelor of Biology the University of Cauca. He has nearly 10 years' teaching experience. His passion for education goes beyond the classroom and he is always looking forward to make not just excellent students but integral people as well. Issac moved from Colombia with his family to Shenzhen in 2017. They love Shenzhen and SIFC and this has been the third year he taught in SIFC.
Isaac’s family
Mr. Isaac’s love for his subject is transmittedto the students in every class, in every activity and in every corner of theschool, promoting good practices, love for nature and inspiring young learnersto grow consciousness for our planet's diversity.
Integrated Science
Integrated Science is an entry-level science course covering concepts found in Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Throughout the course, students will have opportunities to observe simulations, investigate ideas, and solve problems–both on screen and away from the computer.
Integrated Science
Students applying concepts of Physics about velocity, distance and time in order to understand some Biological processes during an Integrated Science class.
Integrated Science
Students collecting Rock samples around the school area in order to make observations that allow them to classify and determine the composition of our planet’s crust.
Biology - Pre AP
This course follows the guidelines outlined in the Pre AP Biology course by the College Board. It emphasizes the integration of content with science practices—powerful reasoning tools that support students in analyzing the natural world around them. This course focuses deeply on the foundational biology knowledge and skills that matter most in preparing students for subsequent coursework in science. This course concentrates on the core areas of ecological systems, evolution, cellular systems, and genetics. Rather than understanding content topics in isolation, students will make meaningful connections between the structures, processes, and interactions that exist across biological systems—from cells to ecological communities.
Biology - Pre AP
Students working on genetics, observing the different phenotypes that can be obtained from mixing different characteristics using clay models.
Biology - Pre AP
Students visiting Shenzhen Zoological Garden making observations that allow them to understand certain evolutionary processes by first hand.
Biology - Pre AP
Students preparing plant cells in order to make some observations on the process of Photosynthesis.
Biology - Pre AP
Awaiting for the results during the process of Photosynthesis. The students observe the oxygen coming out of the leaves
Biology - Pre AP
Collecting samples and making observations of the different types of plants to understand the evolutionary processes of plants.
AP Biology
AP Biology prepares students to take the College Board’s AP Biology exam. It is an introductory college-level biology course. Students cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry-based investigations as they explore the following topics: evolution, cellular processes, energy and communication, genetics, information transfer, ecology, and interactions.
AP Biology
AP practice about water properties to help understand the processes of cohesion, adhesion and water tension.
AP Biology
Students making observations of the level of sugar contained on different substances using a Refractometer in order to compare and understand Carbohydrate Metabolism.
AP Biology
Students are encourage to do research and share their knowledge with the rest of the class helping with their speaking abilities.
Our Biology classes in SIFC are not only based on the ability to memorize concepts, but also and even moreimportant, to understand and to be able to confront our reality based on whatwe have learned. That is the reason why every lesson comes with an engagingactivity like a laboratory, a practice or a field trip, so our students can seeand live Biology from first hand.
In 2019 social practice week, Isaac and Lilian took students to Komodo Island for scientific exploration.
As International educators, we understand that communication is the key to success, so every class is specially designed to explore our student's ability to think and to express their own ideas based on the information given by the teacher, so critical thinking is an important goal inside Mr. Isaac's classroom.

So of one thing we are certain, by the end of their preparation, our students will be able to appreciate science as a coherent body of information and seek to apply it both inside and outside of the classroom and not only to memorize a term or a technical detail to routinely repeat it on a test. Our students are being prepared for a lifetime of opportunities.
