2015 Hawaii Winter Camp


17 students in SIFC went to Hawaii to have a 15-day winter camp during February 4th and 18th in 2015. There were two parts in this activity: the internship in Hawaii Government and having class in Hawaii University.



The First Day(February 5th)

Shan Tsutsui, vice governor of Hawaii received our school students, greeted them and made some request for the internship. Under the leading of some state government members, students visited the parliament house of the state government. Besides, they had a deep understanding of the function for every department and audited meetings of House of Representatives and Senate. What’s more, they also learned the legislation proceedings of House of Representatives. During the process, they discussed and had their own comment on some relevant questions.


The First Day (February 6th )

Under the leading of state government officials, we walked along the street of state government and had some understanding of the surrounding environment, buildings and history, including Hawaii Financial Street, Hawaii Bank, and Hawaii Art Museum. They visited China town on that day. The purpose of visiting was to let students know more about the status and treatment of Chinese who stayed in Hawaii.



The Third Day (February 7th)

Students had a WAM public hearing on the morning and had a deep understanding of the legislation proceeding. After 3-day internship, students benefited a lot and had a comprehensive knowledge of American political system.



Study

Except for the internship in the Hawaii State Government, students also came to the Hawaii University and studied with local students. The courses included political science, American government, international relation, international finance and anthorogy.


Touring

Students also enjoyed the cultural and natural scenery in Hawaii. For example, we visited the famous Pearl Harbor. They had a clear and deep understanding of its history.
