College Visits at SIFC This Week

SIFC welcomed visitors from the College of Wooster and the Allegheny College this week. Both colleges enjoy a long and proud history.

The College of Wooster

Vice President of Enrollment and College Relations Dr. Scott Friedhoff from the College of Wooster gave the passionate speech to the students about this amazing college on October 15, 2018.

Wooster is famous for its small-size classes and excellent undergraduate programs. It is one of only two colleges recognized every single year by US News for both “Outstanding Undergraduate Research” and “Best Senior Capstone” (the other is Princeton University). Research and In(ter)dependent Study Programs offered by Wooster enables the students to be involved in doing research in topics they are interested. Engaging in research helps Wooster students develop the skills that employers wish colleges would emphasize most. Wooster’s Motto is Independent Minds, Work Together.

Allegheny College

Admission Officer Christopher Segur gave the students a brief introduction of Allegheny College on October 16, 2018.

  • Founded in 1815, located in Meadville, Pennsylvania, one hour to Philadelphia;

  • The undergraduate program is all taught by professors, not graduate assistants;

  • To advance the students’ all round abilities, Allegheny doesn’t just focus on students’ major studies, but also highlights training the students’ collaborate, communication, social practice and communication skills. During the four years, the students are exposed to different subjects which enable them to make better choices on major selection and future career planning;

  • In the small-class environment, the professors can name every student and have a better chance to communicate closely with the students. They happily answer the students’ questions and concerns;

  • There is a diverse student body in Allegheny, the college hopes that students will have the strong sense of community in that way they can connect closely with others. As such, the students are required to live in dormitory for four years;

  • All undergraduates will be involved in research programs, with the topics coming from their own major research or cross-discipline exploration.
