Last week, SIFC held its first International Day, nearly 300 people, our students, parents, teachers and community friends from all over the world participated in this splendid international feast.

Chinese qipao and tea ceremony, Southeast Asian cuisine, German football and other different cultures all came together. Students and parents wore national costumes, set up stalls with national characteristics and brought home-made national cuisine. There were cultural performances and traditional games, that promoted the traditional culture of various countries, to promote cross-cultural exchanges in school. Come rain or shine! With their passports in hand, the students completed a three-hour trip around the world.

China

 

 

The students had lots of parent support and put on a fantastic tea ceremony and performance about China with beautiful costumes. 

 

 

UK and Ireland

The team shared lots of tasty food and showed us some fun games such as Irish football, hurling hockey and splat the teacher. 

 

Thailand

The team put on a fantastic performance of Thai dancing with beautiful costumes and shared Thai food prepared by the moms. 

 

 

France

The team displayed lots of information about France and we got to sample a variety of French cheeses and eat snails before Hermione and Michael showed us their dancing skills. 

 

 

USA

The team filled us with American food and information about US history before putting on a funny dance for everyone to enjoy. 

 

 

Italy

The team led the way with an amazing display and performance about Italy including historical characters and even a Milan Fashion show.  

 

 

Japan

The team were similarly impressive with their Japanese booth with lots of tasty food. 

 

Egypt

The team wore amazing Egyptian costumes and we had Middle Eastern food and played an Egyptian card game. 

 

Columbia

The team tempted us with the delights of Columbian food and drinks and then showed us how do salsa dancing. 

 

Germany

Last but not least were the team with their booth about Germany. They put on a music performance for us while we ate typical German food such as sausages and sauerkraut.

Congratulations to Colombia who won first prize in the food section, America who won the information section and Thailand who won the show prize. Our overall winners and inaugural SIFC International Champions were Italy who performed brilliantly in every category. 

 

 

The first International Day of SIFC came to a wonderful conclusion! Principal Dr. Mark said:

 

I hope that through the activities of the International Day, we will create an international exchange platform linking schools and communities, so as to deepen students' understanding of cultural and customs in various countries. To become a global citizen with an international vision. This year, parents participated in the whole process of the event, there were many countries on display. The food was made by the parents themselves. To let parents and children participate in such a day, reflecting the atmosphere of family and school made the day one of joy and harmony. In an open teaching environment, students are also fully aware of the fun of learning.
