“International Day”

On Friday April 12th we will introduce International Day to SIFC for the first time. Parents are not only invited to attend but encouraged to take an active role. International day is a fun way to inspire students to be more aware of the world around them. It is also an opportunity for parents to join in the fun and share the experience with their students.

We will create groups of students and parents to represent a country by setting up a booth. 

We've already got booths for China, USA, UK, France, German, Italy, Thailand, Japan, Egypt, Columbia. Any country you want to join?

The plan for the day is 

8:00 AM to 9:45 AM 

-- SET UP

9:45 AM- March of Flags 

- Opening Ceremony

10:00 AM to 12:00 PM 

-- Booth Judging

12:30 PM

-- Winners Announced

12:30 PM to 3:30 PM

 -- Enjoy the fair / Open to public

3:30 PM to 4:30 PM

 -- Clean up

The school will provide each group with a tent and tables to set up a booth.

Each Booth will be judged on 3 main criteria

1) Information

Booths should contain interesting and important information about the country it represents.  The information could be provided through posters, pictures, pamphlets, etc...

2) Cuisine

Booths should have food for sampling.  Food should be precooked or raw (i.e.salad) as there will be no cooking devices provided by the school. Parents are welcome to bring small electric cooking devices.  (Please no barbeques) 

3) Show

Each Country will need to have a brief show. In the second half of the day the show becomes something that can be taught at each booth. For example, the show could be a traditional dance.  In the second half of the day, the dance could be taught to anyone who attends the booth. Another example is that the show could be making dumplings. Then the booth could provide space for kids to come and make dumplings in the afternoon.

1st place trophy will be awarded in each category as well as an overall Champion.

It will be the first International Day at SIFC and we are excited to begin a great new tradition.
